I'm looking for suggestions....... I think this forum is a great concept; especially compared to the Yahoo style of group. We have virtually no spam here, everything is filed by cateogory and you can easily post pictures. Why to people stay with Yahoo? If anyone has any suggestions on what to do with these forums, by all means, let me know

I think some of it's plain old hard-headedness.

A lot of automotive groups I use/belong to, use a php based system also. The yahoo group is also quite for the number of members.
ideas Start off a FAQ section , and hope Google starts to list it higher up. Currently this forum this is not listed on the first page on one of my searches (but has a link of the forth link, not too bad) but the GMV Registry turns up at 12th on another) ) believe or not there is a 'my space' page for Granadas founded: Jul 10, 2006 with 8 members.
Does the GMV Registry site had any pages linking to here changed in the last few months? that sometimes helps with ratings.

Jeff- I think this is a wonderful forum, especially if you post pics. I follow both this forum and the GMV yahoo, and enjoy both. For some reason, more members of the Yahoo board look for the opinion and/or help, and/or advice from other members regarding mechanical and repair issues., more so than here. If there were some way to create that kind of interest, it would be great, as I think that most of are only more than glad to offer assistance, help, or narrate our experiences. And occasionally to throw a barb at a member we've come to know well. Another thought----- how about a picture of a mystery GMV part for the membership to identify!!!! Cheers, Ralph

I don't know the answer. I see no reason why people can't support both sites but there is definite resistance. Personally I'm pretty disappointed in that. Maybe some feel it's some kind of "disloyalty" to the original site. I do not.
Everyone has gained something from the Registry's existence, if only a dedicated Web page featuring their own car - for free. There's a lot more, of course, but I personally think that's more than enough to justify throwing a little support this way.

The interesting issue may be the decline in activity on the other site. (Until today, to check the messages there, I haven't used the other bulletin board in ages. I like this one much better.) For Jan-Nov of this year compared to Jan-Nov of 2006, there has been a 49.1% decline in the number of messages posted on the other board. - Does this mean a general lack of or declining interest in the GMVs?
- Are are members bored?
- Are our members dying off?
- Are they getting rid of their GMVs?
- Are our GMVs running so well that no one needs general mechanical help?
- Are people researching the archive of messages to find their answers?
Maybe we need more "What-if" type discussions. For example, I'm the newsletter and website editor for the Southern Region of the Lincoln and Continental Owner's Club. In our last newsletter, I publlished a "What-If" article on my 2 Lincolns. One is "What if Lincoln made a Signature Series" for the Versailles in 1980? What would it look like? To find that answer, you can read my article here... www.southernregionlcoc.com/LCOC%20SR%204Q%202007%20Newsletter%201.pdfOther newsletters for the Southern Region are found here... www.southernregionlcoc.com/newsletters.htmWe experience the same issues in our clubs as well as online. That is, how do we keep people engaged and active? It's a very tough question to answer.

Thanks, Tony, I've now completed the submission and embedded Meta Tags in the Header. I guess I had not done that before since this was originally just a back page of the Registry which was submitted to search engines.

You're right, James. There have been times that the Yahoo board has been totally quiet. It seems to run in spurts now; silent, then 100+ exchanges will appear, then quiet again.
One guy who's appeared there recently would be an awesome addition on this board; he's a retired fuel systems engineer who worked on carburetion and tuning design for these cars at Ford when they were being built. This is one of the guys who used to race on Woodward Ave. in Detroit when it was the unofficial test site for a lot of the factory performance stuff.
I wonder how many inside contacts he may still have at Ford. Who knows what kind of information, build statistics, etc he might be able to track down... could potentially help build Jeff's info database a lot.

there is of course the European way of getting folks to come; topless models.........lol convertible of course There used to be a wrecking yard site on the Internet - Gilly's in California. They had all old stuff up in the woods. Each car picture had a girl in cut offs and mid-drift shirt "sprawled" over the car in some fashion - it wasn't obcene, but definitely made the wrecks look better!

Gary, Ralph, James,
All good ideas. I like the what-ifs. Too bad I don't really know how to use photoshop. We could create station wagons, hearses, convertibles, rancheros etc. all based on the GMV.
Mystery Part - that's a good one too. I'll go one step farther though - Mystery Ford Part Number!
FAQ section - Most overdiscussed topics have resulted in a separate discussion page. This spawned the creation of the headers and dual exhaust page, the valuations page on the Registry and others.

Hi Jeff! I'm not computer savvy enough to have any concrete suggestions.I do know that I really like the site & have received a lot of info & help from the members. I also was in the Oldsmobile site & some times it also got very quiet but there were more members of course when you consider the # of olds out there. I do hope we can get some more action, but kudos to all who are here & thanks for all the help...Keep up the good work.....Don
