good day right from the start i had a vibration in my 79 with 302 that i could never pin point untill now upon start up after being in the garage all winter for a full frontal restroation [ball joints tie rods bushings spring pearches ect] i started up the engine and wow i thought the motor was going to jump out and bite me then i noticed the alt and p.s. were not turning as fast as they should have being and then the belts came flying off! upon closer inspection i found the dampner spinning on the crank snout removed it and found a peice broken off where the square stock joined the dampner so nothing was holding the dampner from turning other than the bolt re&re a new dampner and its smooth as silk somthing to watch for

I had the damper come apart on my '71 Cougar with 351C power. The rubber breaks down with age in the dampers.
Good idea to keep an eye on it. If doing a rebuild, a replacement is probably good insurance.
