Hi I want to put larger tires on my 79 Lincoln Versailles. Does anyone know what is the largest size 14" tires that will fit without rubbing? I would like to go with a 235/75R-!4. Thanks.

Personnally, I wouldn't go with any more than 225/75R14- if you're going to run 14's. It's not necessarily the rubbing that would be my greatest issue, it's the weight of each wheel & tire.. a 235 is significantly heavier than a 205 which was standard production issue. You could use lightweight alloy wheels of 15 or 16 inches and run low profile tires, keeping the total diameter to about the same as stock. But I think the factory engineered steering and suspension geometry works best with the 75 tire ratio. I had tried 70 ratio on mine , didn't like the feel, but maybe it was just the tires themselves. I don't know. Find some older fellow in a tire dealer place that does alignments, and get his advice. Good luck, Ralph

Hi Ralf: Thanks for your help. I have a set of OEM aluminum dish mags that I think came with the car when new. I just wanted a tire that's wider.
