This is my '73 Montego- trying to post a pic.
With thanks to Jeff for sorting out my picture(s) inadequacy, I'll now continue my post on this ordinary, or is it extraordinary, vehicle..
This old girl first saw the roads, and not much of them in Ohio.It was bought new from the Mercury dealer in Lancaster , Ohio, 30 miles or so s/e of Columbus. The first owner was a lady by the name of H.Shaw. In 28 years, she managed to put all of 10,583 miles on the car. I'm told that it was licensed and in operation every year. I bought the car from Bob M. -in the fall of 2005.
Bob M. had been a mechanic at the Ford dealer and was the one who serviced the vehicle while he was there. He subsequently opened his own independent shop and Mrs Shaw continued to take her car to him. In the spring of 2001, she offered the car for sale to Bob M. He had it licensed on the road 2001-2005, and put all of 1200 miles on it.
As can be seen, this Montego MX Brougham, is tan bodied, dark brown vinyl topped, 4 dr pillared hardtop. There were 24,329 of these made and the base price was $3189.00,before options. Even an AM radio was an extra cost option on this car.
The data plate reads -Body :53K - Color 5L (tan) -Trim GZ (Dk Tobacco)- Date 07/73 DSO 32 - Axle 2 - Trans - X.
When I got it, it still had the original Steel belted Uniroyal tyres, which held air nicely, but I've replaced them for safety reasons. At the same time, I installed the new ones on period correct Magnum wheels. The car is near perfect, a couple of 1/4 "burns on the seat upholstery and a flattened w/o moulding on left rear. I'm looking for an NOS or near NOS one. It starts up
great 351 W- runs great, A/C works good, and gets a few stares. In this part of North America , these cars in particular were totally rusted out before they were 5 years old. No rust on this baby, though .
It is the oldest in my stable, Ralph
