I was wondering if anyone had done the rag joint / coupler installation. Mine has fallen apart on the '76. I purchased a reproduction from Lares Corporation in November but haven't got to it yet. My understanding is you have 1 of 2 choices - to take the steering gear off the frame (and contend with powersteering lines & hoses) or take apart the steering column (and run the risk of unhooking the transmission indicator wire) Thoughts or comments? Here's a link to their store - they don't have any more in stock for our cars... stores.shop.ebay.com/Lares-Corporation_Kits-Couplers_W0QQ_fsubZ3QQ_sidZ28638068QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

Allo Michel,
Bienvenu au site! J'en n'ai jamais vu un autre GMV à Montréal. De temps en temps je m'en vais au Julep durant l'été. A plus,
Chris

At Mike form Quebec,
How did you get the column loose enough to pull back? I have everything loose at the rag link but can't get the coupler off? My link has been completely torn apart.

Congratulations-
I've not yet replaced one, I understand it's the removal of the old one that's a pain and installation of new one is quite easy. And none of the manuals I;ve looked at don't have detailed ,step by step instructions

Was actually easy once I figured out how.
1. Loosen the bolts connecting the rag joint to steering column
2. Loosen the four bolts holding the column under the dash (remove dash column plastics first)
Watch out for the electrical connectors as well; you'll have to disconnect at least one and loosen a wire on the column itself.
3. Have a friend pull the steering wheel towards the seat being careful to not pull loose the wiring
4. Unfasten the rest of the joint
Installation is the reverse, make sure you have the steering positioned level when you tighten everything down
You'll have to work around the brake booster, but it shouldn't be a problem just take your time. Total time was around an hour.

Works great, steering is tight now. Only thing I have to do is loosen and get the steering aligned with the wheels...she is straight at the wheels but the steering wheel is off to the right almost straight up and down from horizontal.
