Ok this is interesting...
Ebay Item number: 250309742101
it's a '75 Granada Ghia with the claim of being the first Granada sold in the US. Appears to be documented from the dealer. The problem I have is that the VIN indicates its production number 13,678 in sequence. Considering also the Mahwah built '75s, I'm not sure the validity of it. This production number still means the car was built either in August 74 or September 74 (based on others in the Registry) so I suppose its possible. I've attached correspondence I've had with the seller....
thoughts?
My In-laws sure believe they got the first one sold, it may not haqve been the first one built, but I would have guess it was built sooner than the 13,000 unit. I will get the purchase date info from them and respond back.
To: Jeff Roblin, I listed the 75 ford Granada on e-bay. Unfortunately, e-bay does not appear to allow me to respond twice. My in-laws have documentation showing they bought the car on 9-27-1974. I was part of the faqmily back then and can attest that the local ford Dealership in Fairmont Minnesota told them it was the first sold. My in-laws are from Granada, MN sabout 8 miles from Fairmont and have always bought Fords so that is why they were selected. Use my e-mail above or e-bay for further questions.

I just noticed the ad for this car on eBay and had the same thought as Jeff. The documentation with the car supports the claim and the early sale date makes sense. Being #13,678 built at Wayne doesn't seem logical, though. Possibilities? How many pre-production cars were built for testing, etc, and never sold to the public? Ford wanted this car to be a success and they may have built a lot of "mules". Another possibility: maybe Ford cranked out a good supply of them prior to the on-sale date so that dealers everywhere had a selection of them when they were released for sale. Fairmont, MN is sure not a big town, I have quite a bit of family in that area. Anyway, if it can be verified it's at the least a very interesting car from a historical point of view.

What's the earliest sequential build number you have in the Registry for '75, Jeff?
... and by the way, how do you like the color combination on this car? Looks kinda familiar...

Looks kinda familiar... #1362 is the lowest production number Wayne '75 I have. Looking at the build dates, though the Ebay '75 was still built in late Aug '74 or early Sep '75. I just expected to be a lower production number.

sounds about right too me, it may actually be the first sold, im sure there were plenty of promo/demo cars and im sure some of the early ones built were probably striped down models.. first sold i can beleave, if the clame was first built or for sale too the public i would be very skeptical..

I like that one but it needs lower quarters and wheelwells.

The thought of this Granada being "the first sold" is rather funny. It might have been the first sold from that dealership, but Ford set a introduction date that the car was to go on sale and several cars were sent to each dealership before that date to make sure every dealer had a Granada to show prospective buyers. Many were sold that week and others were kept as dealership demonstrators.
That would have been many thousands of cars. Perhaps 20,000? That makes it very possible that this car, #13678 was sold on that day (along with 5000 - 20,000 other cars).
