It doesn't have to be PHILCO- In fact there are several brands of radios that were either made directly for Ford or aftermarket as dealer upgrades- some RCA's, some Panasonic, and Ford's best Quadrasonic. But if you presently only have AM, then likely you have only one speaker in the top center portion of your dash.. so, you're best to look for a basic AM/FM without too much add ons. I have a 73 Mercury Montego, with just AM- I'm going to soon replace with AM/FM as there are really no AM stations left. You can look on EBAY - Any Ford radio - '72 to ' 79 will fit nicely, could be from a Ford, a Maverick, Torino, etc. But GO for a brand name you recognize, and make sure Seller guarantees it's in good working condition. I've bought a couple that were about as good as a brick. Cost to repair most is prohibitive. Good luck. Welcome to the forum, Ralph

Follow up- Just had a look on EBAY- There are two that I'd take a chance on- The first- item 350097700430- seems to be just what you are looking for. The second- 280267632419 - appears to be a reasonable bet also. Again Good luck. Ralph

You'll want an AM-FM mono radio for that unless you want to rewire all the speakers. My Torino has one dash speaker, a fader knob under the dash, and two rear speakers (all factory) listening to a Philco AM radio (also factory). There are four wires coming out of the back of the radio in two 2-wire plugs. One plug has power and dash lighting leads. The other plug has a speaker positive and a speaker negative. These speaker wires then feed through the fader knob and go to the 3 speakers. If you can find an AM-FM mono unit (anything 74-79 will work and look right in the dash) then get it. I've been unsuccessful for a year myself, but I haven't been looking too strongly. The stereo units are very common, but you'd have to put in a dual-channel front speaker (Crutchfield has them for $50-$55 in 5x7, 6x9, and 4x10) and run wires to all the speakers, leaving the fader switch out. The stereo radio has a fader knob built-in anyway.
I'm waiting to hear back from a guy in Abilene about a possible mono radio. If he has more than one I can let you know. But this thread is a year and a half old. I'm just adding my research and knowledge to the forum, I guess.
