Hey all,
I sent an email to a company named KARR RUBBER asking them about weatherstrip for a 2 door. The answer I got was it could be made but......The dies are about 700.00 plus they need both sides un damaged as samples. Then there is the tooling etc. They would need the samples and then give an estimate plus up front payment before undertaking such a project. Due to lack of "demand" for post 1970 cars was the biggest reason it is not available. (Quoted) What is the general opinion from the group? Would it be worth more than likely over a grand to get started on real reproduction weatherstrip? Should we all bombard them with emails requesting weatherstrip for the 75-80 GMV's?

Thanks for doing that legwork, James. We've talked about this in the past but never got past "talk". $1000 to set it up and run repros actually isn't as much as I was guessing it would be.
I guess if we had 20 owners who wanted them, and we each put up $50 apiece plus whatever the price of the moldings - maybe we could get it done? That doesn't seem like such a bad deal since otherwise they just can't be had unless you get really lucky.
I do have a NOS rear window molding that I'd put up for a sample. It's green and I figured on dying it to match mine if I had to use it. Rather have black anyway, so why not?

I would not have a problem sharing out the cost either. We would have to work it out with the company somehow. I sent another email asking if they could give a closer total estimate. The machine once set up has to run a minimum of roughly 1000 feet of "sponge" rubber. To make windshield weatherstrip is less expensive due to it being "more dense" than sponge rubber and thus easier to reproduce. (summary from previous email) When I get another response I will forward the emails in their entirety for the whole group. Sure would be nice to get some made one day. James

If we are talking about the door weather stripping, then count me in too. As for the windshield and back window, I just put in a new windshield and had my back window removed and reinstalled to stop a leak. I haven't had a chance to see the results yet, but the guy at the glass shop said it looks good and I assume he just used generic supplies to do it. Even the new windshield was only $350. I was surprised to even get one and pleased with the price. But as for the door weather stripping, mine is old (obviously) and stiff. It doesn't leak yet, but of course it is just a matter of time, so I'd be glad to contribute to a fund to have it reproduced.

Have any of you tried products from "Technology LK"a division of Gordon glass. They carry an assortment of sponge rubber door seal. The only thing I've bought is a piece of glass channel for a rear door to my Versailles.The piece that fits in the upright channel on the leading edge of the quarter glass and provides a run for the rear edge of the operating window. I was very pleased with it. It was not car specific, but generic with dimensions that worked. My Granada's door rubber seals are excellent, they'll outlive me with the occasional silicone treatment.
