I'm pasting this in from a post appearing on the Yahoo Granada group board...
Greetings. This is my first post to the group. I am a reporter covering the auto industry in Detroit for the Reuters news agency.
As some of you may be aware, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama yesterday told a radio station that the car the he learned to drive on was a Ford Granada.
He went on to say: "It may be the worst car that Detroit ever built. This thing was a tin can. It was during the '70s when oil had just gone up so they were trying to compete with the Japanese. They wanted to keep the cars big, so they made them out of tin foil. It would rattle and shake. You basically couldn't go over 80 (miles per hour) without the thing getting out of control."
I would be interested in hearing your reactions to this verdict.
I am not a Granada driver, by the way, but I seem to recall that my grandfather, a longtime Ford employee, also drove an iteration of the car when I was in high school.
I can be reached at kevin.krolicki@... and 1-313-967-1902. I'm hoping to find folks willing to comment for my story.
Best regards, Kevin Krolicki

Well, we've made the national press! blogs.reuters.com/shop-talk/2008/05/08/us-voters-speak-out-we-love-our-granadas/From the Yahoo group site, this reply from the Reuters writer: I just want to thank everyone for your comments in response to my earlier query on Barack Obama's remarks. For those of you who have asked, the Reuters story on what someone in the community jokingly called "Granadagate" has moved on our campaign coverage site. I've copied the link below. As I said to one of you, the Hollywood happy ending would be a reunion between the candidate and the car many of you say he must have misremembered. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. Best regards, Kevin Krolicki
