My power steering has been one problem after another since the day I bought my car. Right now the control valve is leaking and the linkage has loosened itself up enough to make the car scary above 50mph. My car already has manual brakes and I love them so I'd like to convert to manual steering. I've researched the conversion and what I've found so far is all I need is the manual linkage and to remove all the PS stuff. I read you can keep the same steering box, effort would just be increased over a manual one. I just wanna know if I'm missing anything and if anyone knows where I could locate the necessary parts.

I don't know anyone who's gone from manual to power..............only the other way around. We used to install powersteering on old farm tractors for the old farmers. Used a lot of 1962-64 Chev units that would have sold now.
I suppose that you could go back as far as '60 Falcon for pieces. I'd be interested as to what others have to say on the subject.

Hollander shows interchange for GMVs w/o PS. For the steering gear, it interchanges with:

I was on fordsix.com and they said that the manual steering adapter for the 67-70 mustangs fits the 71-77 mavericks. It's just a solid piece that replaces the control valve and connects the pitman arm so you can do away with everything else. I'm figuring if it fits the mavericks it should work on Granada's too. I'll probably be buying one to find out.

I was reading up on the power steering adapter and it appears that it only fits the 75-76 Granadas. I cross checked part numbers and the 77-80 power control valves aren't the same as the previous years and I'm not sure if they are interchangeable. Since I have a 78 I guess I'm just gonna keep the power and shell out the money for a new control valve and PS pump.
