Just looked at a 85 Lincoln town car, just a few inches longer from the look of it. mmmmm maybe maybe.
I just wondered what you may be temped to chose.
Still looking for a nice GMV. Never ended up with a RV needing work but got a ski boat though was not on my list but too good to pass up (small engine problem).
My 'wanted' car list.
1) 69/70 Mustang 2) 67 Ranchero 3) 64 Galaxie maybe to 67 4) 75-79 2 door GMV

If money wasn't an issue AND I wanted to stay in the Ford family, I also like the 1967-70 Cougar and 1968-71 Montego.

I'm right with you on the '64 Galaxie. Would have to be an XL.
I'd also like to have:
another '71-72 Cougar an earlier Cougar, maybe '69-70 '68 Torino GT convertible or coupe, not the fastback '70 Torino GT or Cobra with either M-code 351C or 429 '84-86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, five-speed '67 Cyclone GT hardtop with S-code 390

ok lol.. i wasnt sure either to be honest.. im no expert lol eliminators are pretty freaking sweet.. there were many at carlisle..
now that i think about it i had an artist friend that had a 73 cougar convertible.. he did a rendering of what he wanted to build it like, and it resembled an eliminator.. i'll have to see if i can get a scan of it from him...

I don't think so. I had a '71 base Cougar when I was, well, a lot younger. There WAS a GT option on the '71 Cougar, though - it had a hood scoop and GT badging. I think they had the M-code 351 base and 429 was optional. there was a 71 eliminator?

I only saw one when I was a teenager. I dont remember much other than the lust for that car. Didnt it have a body kit of some sort? Like ground effects and fender flares. I was guesstimating on the year. I figured pre-72 when they dropped compression. I thought it was a post 70 bodystyle so I took a shot. I better be careful though with as much knowledge is on this site. I forgot the 75 Aussie Falcon though make mine a 429 (swapped in is fine) manual tranny please. I have a friend with a 71 t-bird with a 429 the air cleaner sticker reads 429 thuinder-jet 4V. I have no idea if this is like a cj I have my doubts but it is a strong runner, any input?

there was a 71 eliminator? Here's the scoop on the '71 Cougar GT option. The 1971 and 1972 Cougar GT started as a standard model then has the "GT Option" added. The GT option in 71 and 72 was a "middle ground" between the standard model and the XR-7. The GT Option was available for all Engines, including the standard 351-2V, 3-speed. GT Option included the following advertised items: Color-keyed Hood Scoop. Hood Scoop functional on 1971 429-4V CJ (J Code) option. Bright Wheel Trim Rings in addition to standard Hub Caps unless "deluxe", full Wheel Cover option selected. Dual color-keyed Racing Mirrors. Left hand remote control adjust, right hand manual adjust. Instrument panel finish and Steering Column all Black. Deluxe 3-spoke rim-blow, Black Steering Wheel. Tachometer. Competition handling package. Included heavy duty front and rear Springs and Shock absorbers and a larger diameter, front Stabilizer Bar. Rear Stabilizer Bar added when 351-4V and 429-4V CJ Engines ordered. Tire upgrade from E78x 14 Black Wall to E78x 14 White Wall. Performance cooling package with larger Radiator on 1971 models. More performance oriented "standard" Axle ratio than standard model on most Engine/Transmission combinations. GT letters on Fender sides. Note: GT 1967/1968 letters used beneath and to the right of "Cougar" script ornament. Note: Staggered Rear Shocks (with optional Engines only) were not unique to the GT package. These were on all Cougars ordered with an optional Engine. Note: No XR-7 GTs were produced in these years Note: The GT option was not available on Convertibles. Note: In 1971 the 429CJ Engine package includes the Competition Suspension, and requires Power Disc Brakes, with F70x14 Tires with 7-inch Wheels. Note: The 351-4V or the 429CJ were available with either the 3-speed Select shift automatic, or a 4-speed, fully-synchronized manual transmission with Hurst Shifter. Note: The 429CJ uses a Rochester Quadra-Jet Carburetor.

Google makes me look smarter than I am. You're on the right track about Eliminators and Trans-Am racing, at least as far as one engine option. The Boss 302 (which was a Trans-Am homologation project to begin with) was an option on the '69-70 Eliminator. See one with a "G" for engine code in the VIN, it is or was a Boss 302 powered Eliminator. But if I remember right, '67 was the only year that factory-sponsored Cougars ran in Trans-Am. The Eliminator didn't come along 'til '69. WOW, thats a mouthful. lol You guys never cease to amaze me. So, who really shot JFK? Just kiddin' dont even go there. I was thinking that the eliminator had something to do with trans-am racing. Thanks for the info. L8TR

Eliminator was '69 and '70 only. It was, uh, eliminated in '71. So was '70 the last year they came out?
