Bill,
Thanks so much for sending me the broken switch for the illuminated entry. (I'm not being sarcastic.) Seeing the broken switch helped me understand the problem.
I dismantled my driver's door panel this morning and removed the illuminated entry switch. It was broken just like you said it would be and looked just like your part.
The only problem I had was that I could not find my 1/4 inch open end wrench to remove the retaining bolt. So, I had to run to the hardware store to get one.
Anyway, I removed the switch and embedded a lead by mounting it with a large screw. I made sure the screw and lead were tight. (I know this isn't factory design, but it's better than finding a switch online or going to a salvage yard.)
The good news is that it works. This was the last item on the car to be fixed and has bothered me since I bought the car 11 years ago. (Well, I have a broken power window now to be fixed.)
I just get a bit excited when I fix something and all the little tihings work as they should. Thanks again Bill for the switch and advice.
