I need to redye the dash pad in my granada because the sun has turned the top from tan to black. There are no cracks and it is in good structural condition. A local paint supplier told me to clean it with mineral spirits and use rubbing compound to see if it would lighten the color at all and it really didn't. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific brand of dye and where I can get it? I was looking into products from Eastwood and they seem to have the best selection. Their products are usually very good but I thought I would ask you all. It has the JV interior code creme and tan bench seating. Thanks Mike

Does Eastwood sell the SEM vinyl dye or is it their own?
I've never heard anything bad about Eastwood's products. The SEM line has gotten good reviews that I've seen. Probably do fine either way.
Your local paint supplier should be able to find the formula to mix an exact match for you from the color code you mentioned. If they can't call around. I've seen suppliers here that don't do it, but competitors up the street who do.

Hi Mike-
I've used both SEM and AutoMagic Color dyes in their available stock colours. You'll not find an absolutely exact colour match, but some are very close, as you know your 30 yr old vinyl is no longer an exact match to the original. Both SEM and AutoMagic gave me very good results, but it seemed to me that AutoMagic went farther. Wherever possible remove the components from the car for spraying. SEM has a vinyl prep that does a good leveling job, well worth using. Good luck, Ralph

Henrik had some interior color mixed at a paint and body supply store here in Ft Worth when he was here in June. I don't think he's gotten to use it yet, since he went to Australia before his shipment of stuff got to Denmark, but he's got a console to shoot with it. He bought a quart, so by the time it's reduced he should be able to use it for a long time. I think they used DuPont material.
That store had the old color formulas and mixed it to match as original. When he gets to use it I would imagine he'll let us know how it comes out.

Eastwood does carry SEM products. The two colors closest seem to be either camel or palomino. www.eastwoodco.com edit: I ended up going to a local paint supplier and found a color medium gold that was my interior color and had it mixed in a 1/2 pint. Cost 27 bucks or so but it is the correct color. The only problem is that it is laquer so I have to paint it in a nice warm environment. Mike
