My interior originaly came as a dark red, but some panels have started to turn to a dark purple tone and others a lighter red. So I've got this idea, may sound crazy or ugly, but since I'm going to need a new dark red carpet, I'd like to cover the dinged-up and faded interior paneling with some dark red vinyl. If I do this, would I have to sand the dimpled panels smooth or simply spray it with glue and cover? And what kind of glue should I use?
Forgot to add that I need a new headliner and it would be from the same color vinyl.

To my mind , for rejuvenation & improved looks, the easiest and most satisfactory process is to re-dye all the plastic, vinyl, leather parts/panel. Products like SEM and Auto Magic are great, available at many automotive paint stores. If you choose to use , be sure to get the prep (spray on) product, it ensure evenness of finish.

Vinyl works great on flat surfaces and areas you can wrap. That being said, our interior rear panels, both lower and upper, would not wrap well in vinyl. A lot of cuts would have to be made to make the vinyl lie flat which would more than likely be noticeable.
The only thing I wrapped in vinyl on my car were the cardboard trunk inserts that hide the tail light wiring. Mine had become water damaged from normal use.

On my Versailles, I recovered the battered B & C pillar panels (upper and lower) in the same cloth as the headliner. You have to make some cuts to get the fabric to fold along the panel lines, but all these cuts fold onto the backside. It does glue well and the cloth hugs flat along all the front contours and surfaces. This works for the Versailles since the headliner is cloth and makes for a very rich looking interior like luxury cars today. However, I don't recall if the headliner in the G/Ms are cloth.

Thanks jhkaster! I'll just have to find some cloth and some spray on fabric glue.
