Speaking of "soft trim items" -- So who remembers these? This is the ad from JC Whitney back then. Think of this as the original prototype for the third-brakelight, or CHMSL. WINKY CAT He's Baaaack - And Better than Before WINKY watches the world from your package shelf. His eyes will light when connected to your brake lights. (or turn signals) White ONLY. order item # WC-70............$35.00 www.nostalgia-unlimited.com/doghula.htmlI just can't shake this image from my brain whenever I think of JC Whitney or its original parent company, Warshawsky & Co.

You thought I was making this up, didn't you?
Yep. Sure did. I remember seeing them in the '60s. The other accessory that was mandatory if you had the Cat, was the furry rear-shelf rug. Same hair as the cat. Available in many colors. Those were around into the '70s. Friend of mine, in college, had one that his dad bought for him. In his dad's day they were the cat's meow, so to speak. We gave him endless grief about that rug.
This will explain my "resistance" to JCWhitney.

I've purchased a few items from JC Whitney: window channel strips and rear leaf springs for the Versailles, an auto-dim rearview mirror with temp and compass for my LeBaron and misc other small items. I haven't had a bad experience yet.

James, my impression of Whitney may be dated and I may be just a bit of an old fart about the whole thing. There was a time when I wouldn't have touched their stuff with a ten-foot pole. From what you're saying, it's not the same place that it was in the '60s and '70s.

You know, they don't even sell Opera Lamps anymore either. It's all pretty mainstream stuff these days with some very specific replacement parts for Jeeps, Beetles and other cars too.

I need material for my RH door. I replaced the LH door years ago. Jeff.

The purchase for the window channel molding was about 7 years ago. They didn't have an exact match, but they had one that was close. In their catalog, they have cut-away views with dimensions. I simply matched the old piece to the closest find. I don't have the receipt or part number anymore.

I've heard some bad things about JCwhitney products and seen one case firdthand. I used to work in a front end shop, a guy had us intall a complete front end kit on a mid 70's Chevy truck. The parts were of such poor quality that there was more slop with the new parts than the old. This may be an isolated case. BTW the only cat you would find in the back of my car would walk on two legs.
