Hey guys, my name is Jareth. I have had a lot of troubles with my granada in the past few months - the latest of which is my coupler is toast! My mechanic will not let the car off the lot because he has deemed it "unsafe to drive" so it's stuck there until i can find one of these things. Apparently the only couplers that will work are off the '76 granada and '76 zephyr. If you know where i can find this part PLEEEEASE tell me, I want my baby back

Are you talking about the rag joint- steering coupler? Those are easy enough to find, shared with a lot of Fords that use this platform. There was no Zephyr in '76. The Merc version of Granada is the Monarch. Zephyr came out in '78, sister to the Fairmont - and a Fox body car, not same as first-gen Granada/Monarch. Hey guys, my name is Jareth. ah, my mechanic said he did a compatibility check and only granadas and zephyrs were compatible - must not have been year specific. my understanding is it's a piece that connects the wheel to the column, he won't let the car leave because he said the steering wheel is about to disconnect from the column =o. I am located in the Kootenays in British Columbia, Canada. The local auto wreckers and the ones in Vancouver (the nearest big city) have all been contacted and no luck. he also phoned ford to see if they knew where to direct him, they said "good luck." anyways let me know if you have access to this part guys, i'll pay the shipping that's no big deal.

This mechanic is mistaken. The Zephyr is *not* the same car, at all. Only thing shared is the blue oval. Yes, you are talking about the rag joint. It is a common part, it is probably the same as used in early Mustangs. The '75 through '80 Granada and Monarch are on the same platform as '65 thru '73 Mustangs, Fairlanes, Torinos. If there are O'Reilly Auto Parts stores near you, they carry it. So common it's used also on some GM and Chryslers. Two part numbers in the aftermarket Motormite line and a third that is Ford only - may be truck. MOTORMITE - STRG COUPLER (GM,FORD,CHRY 3 3/16) Item No: 31000, 31002, 31005 AutoZone has it: www.autozone.com/selectedZip,76137/initialAction,accessoryProductDetail/initialR,NONAPP6177/shopping/selectZip.htm Canada Customers call (800)288-6966 to order from autozone. There's a complete replacement on eBay, not just the rubber donut itself but the whole joint assembly: item # 280158782808. Any good local parts store should have a compatible rag joint for your car. This is a COMMON part. And seriously, if he's telling you '76 Zephyr consider taking it somewhere else --- there is no such thing as a 1976 Mercury Zephyr. ah, my mechanic said he did a compatibility check and only granadas and zephyrs were compatible - must not have been year specific. my understanding is it's a piece that connects the wheel to the column, he won't let the car leave because he said the steering wheel is about to disconnect from the column =o. What is the best diameter for the Granada's, 2 5/8" or 3 3/16"?
I ask this since AutoZone states that the 2 5/8" are for 1965 and newer Fords.
