Long-Tube Headers
Expect heat problems that will cause starters to burn up and expect changing those starters to be a real nasty job with headers installed. Expect reduced ground clearance with the collectors hanging down low. You will also have to have a drop bracket for the power steering to clear the headers. And expect leaks. If the engine isn't built up with high-flow heads, intake, carb and cam to match, you aren't going to get the full benefit of long tube headers anyway.
Hooker made long-tube headers for Granada/Monarch, part number 6140. Good luck finding a set, though. You will need a power steering bracket, you can get it at Summit (#10961). You will also have to flip the bolts that hold the idler arm 180 degree
K-code 289 factory cast-iron headers
They should flow similarly to most tube shorties, they
won't leak and they should clear everything without a bunch of hacking and hammering. They are readily available in reproduction from most of the major early Mustang parts places.
Automatic vs. Standard / 302 vs. 351W
It makes a difference. Clearing the clutch linkage is an issue.
If running a manual trans the K code manifolds may be your best option. If running an automatic, the headers for an early Mustang /Fairlane/maverick will work fine for a 302, if running
a 351w try the "351W into a 65-66 mustang" header. These should clear the floor boards where the 302 ones may not.
Other Options
'78 Fairmont shorties with fit LH Granada 302, but not RH
'79-93 Mustang shorties will fit Granada 302 auto with the following mods: (they not equal length) 1) Put a flat spot on the curved part closest to the shock tower; one on
each side. 2) On the driver side pipe #3 by the steering box, grind down the flange somewhat as it will rub on the steering box and the passenger side pipe #2. The rest will clear. (Apparently they will fit 351W cars but required modifications are not known.)
66 Mustang long tube will work for 302 4 speed setup to clear the z bar application. Firewall will require dimpling a little and you will have to lower the steering assist cyl.
