I see that lots of people are doing all sorts of mods to their engines, interior, exterior and so on. That's all great but, what can we do for not so much dollar to improve the life and performance of our transmissions? Well B&M has a few goodies such as Shift Improver Kits, Transpaks Overhaul Kits, Complete Street/Strip Transmission Kits, just to name a few. Some of their stuff can be done at home or the rest at a garage for not too much.

Shift improver kit can help extend trans life, from what some transmission guys have told me. Less slip on the upshift equals less heat, and heat kills transmissions. I had a trans rebuilt for a Bronco II for my son several years ago. The shop guy put a kit in every transmission he built. End result was nice. It didn't shift harshly but it was crisp. I'd do that again.

Hey everyone,
I have a transmision question...maybe. I replaced the rear end last year and had the driveshaft replaced. I even went so far as to take it over to FT. Worth gear and axle on a trip to my parents and had it balanced. While they had it I had the slip yoke replaced and the u joints replaced. Since I have not driven it excpet for maybe a trip around the block etc. This past weekend was beautiful and I took the old girl out for a good blow out the motor and run it out drive. When I got it up to about 45 the car started vibrating badly and it felt like it was comming from the transmission hump. The dash acted like it was going to come off. I slowed down and it lessened but did not stop. Got it home and parked it and noticed trans fluid leaking from the bell housing area. It still shifts fine. No clunks when you run through the gears etc. Anybody got an idea what is wrong?

James- Presuming the driveshaft and U-joints were good and properly installed, maybe you should check your engine /motor mounts.. I've seen some pretty wild shaking from a busted motor mount. Good luck, Ralph

Found out that the taileshaft "bearing/bushing?" was wearing due to the bent and out of balance drive shaft. Need to have it rebuilt or replaced. I was thinking of just replacing it but do not know much about trans etc. Do the GMV's have a small or large bell housing and how do you tell? Thanks!

I know that you can use a lot of different C-4s but you have to change the bell-housing........you could probably just use your own. There are also different torque converters too between 6cyl & 302 cars.
I but a rebuilt transmission in my '76 in 2000. I had a hard time getting a new transmission mount at the time.
