OK.. I don't have the best eye sight, but does the C4 transmission pan have a drain plug on it? I don't see it. My pan is now leaking and I need to replace the gasket (and filter now that I'll be in there).

Thanks... that confirms what I thought. I see plenty of aftermarket, chromed pans with a drain plug on them. Seems to make sense to have one, but it really confused me not seeing it on mine. It will get messy I guess.

I'm not sure if our torque converters have drain plugs either - makes it harder to flush the fluid yourself. When I changes my transmission pan gasket, I also put a couple of small speaker magnuts in the bottom to collect the metal filings out of the oil. I've actually seen factory magnets installed in some pans.

I took my Versailles to Cottman Transmission this morning for an inspection and there appears to be several leaks and he did show me them... worn seals and gaskets etc. And the yoke is leaking at the back. I have more oil in my yard than Jed Clampett! So, it's probably easier having them change the seals and gaskets than what I can do (and in far less time). It would help to have a lift. So, it's about a $300 repair; mostly labor. It goes in Wednesday.

Not to scare you James........but that is what I did, until they found too much grey sludge for their liking in the pan and ended up putting a rebuilt C-4 in and a new transmission mount.

I know. I'm concerned about what they try to sell me and what I really need. On the bright side, the fluid leak is clean and looks darn fresh. The tranny was rebuilt March 28, 1991 and 69,000 miles ago. And, it still shifts fine. It's the engine that really needs rebuilding first or actually, maybe the steering box is first. It's hard to keep up with these things.

Well, this repair is complete now... had a few things done: installed shift linkage seal, band seal, pan gasket and seal rear-end yoke. Total cost for parts, labor and tax was $348. It's all work I couldn't do on my own. Somehow, the car seems to drive better after the repair (which I know is nonsense). But it always seems like after little things are done (like leaks), the car always seems to feel better.
I'll check the garage floor for leaks in the morning.
Now on to the power window dilemna...
