Well I took DA MERC into the shop for its big winter project. There has been rust slowly appearing around the front and rear window under the vinyl top..........
So out comes the windshield and rear glass and quarter windows, most of the interior, off comes the vinyl top and all the metal work will begin.
They are going to put a new windshield in if they can find one but I have a better spare used one if that falls through. Their biggest concern is the rear window gasket at the moment.
I also have a full roll of new vinyl for the roof in the correct colour and pattern that I got out of the US 7 years ago.
I gave them a disposable camera to take pictures of the progress. I'll post them if & when they become available.
Jeff.

I have a NOS coupe rear glass molding, molded in green. Wrong color, but then it's the wrong color for mine too. I figured I'd dye it if I ever get to do my car and if I need it.
Failing all else, I wonder if it's possible to get one made using my NOS to make a mold?

I have no idea why Ford would have colour-coded these gaskets Years ago, I didn't realize there were different colours since mine is grey to begin with. My bodyshop is going to soak it in gasoline and try to reuse it. I told him to call me if needed any parts and I would try to source them.

GASOLINE Maybe the shop knows something I don't.... but I cringe at that notion.... Lots of silicone spray to soften it up, maybe. Gasoline is a very harsh cleaner. Just my thoughts !!!! Ralph

I stopped in last Thursday. Because of some jobs for people that only had 1 vehicle, they had not made much progress on my car except removing the window moldings and starting to remove the vinyl. I'm going to stop in sometime between now and Saturday and see if there is more progress.

Ralph,
Last time I saw it the bumper was out for rechroming, the vinyl was pulled off and the glass was out of it.
It got bumped during the winter for all the collision work due the heavy winter we had in Toronto.
At this point, I don't know if it will be ready for Carlisle or not. I have not reserved my place on the Field but I do have my hotel booked which I may have to give up.

I saw the newly rechromed front bumper yesterday - looks really nice. It was also nicely finished on the inside too
(Helluva lot better than those '71-73 Cougar bumpers that Henrik's Friend from Germany was looking at at Carlisle last year).

Well, Jeff - that's a start. I know you've been garnering parts to upgrade/retrofit "DA MERC". Are you still in search of a MONARCH hood ornament-- I happen to have an "NOS" one in great condition. If interested , let me know. Anxious to see pics of the restoration. Cheers, Ralph

Believe it or not there are 2 bases b/c of slight differences in the contour of the header panels when they changes in '78. There should be a stamping on the bottom. Let me know what you want including shipping to M1M2G2.

Rumour has it I'm supposed to get my car back out of the body shop this week. That's right folks..............I took in the car last fall (Nov 28/07) and I'm just now getting the car back!
The new vinyl roof looks good. The seams are not identical to factory but they're pretty close. The problem was that the body shop took the vinyl off to do the metal work but the vinyl work was jobbed out. I sent them as many photos I could find from factory manuals. No one would really notice.........and for my car, it was a dealer-installed vinyl roof so maybe I have a factory seam now as opposed to before!!!
The tinted windshield looks awesome. My original windshield was non-tint so this is a big improvement...........and I have the newly rechromed front bumper.
I'll be posting pics when I get it.

Contemporary countertops provide the best look for your window mirror as well as other mirror of the car.
