Does anyone know of a source for rear window chrome? I took my Monarch to a friend of mine that owns an auto-trim shop, I wanted an estimate for a new vinyl top. The rear window gasket must have been leaking at some point (explaining the weird rust damage high on the quarters "sound insulation from what I have read on here"). Anyways, the previous owner smeared some kind of caulking around the window and it severely etched the chrome. He said that with R+R, cleaning, and replating that I would be better finding different trim. My "adopting orphans car" has the upper piece missing and I dont want to pull it off my 78. I dont even know how to remove it without destroying it. Does $550 seem high for a padded top? Its more than I paid for the car! I have seen his work and it is top notch with many of his projects in magazines. Any input will be appriciated>thanks ;D

I bought orginal material - just the material and cost me $700USD back in 2000. Is yours a landau top or a full top?

It is a full top (or was anyway. lol). I am not sure about the originality or the material. I think hes looking at good durability and original color. Do you think many people would notice? He also said something about padded vinyl or pad then vinyl. Like two separate layers. I think that he was talking about the lowrider style fake convertible tops. Have you ever removed the trim intact. I might be able to find some on a car but not too sure I could remove it myself.

If your car DOES NOT have a trim panel between the tail lights that matches the vinyl roof, no one would notice if there is a difference. I know on '75-77 models (including my own) there is often a panel between the tail lights which is the same colour and texture as the vinyl roof material.
I have not removed my own window trim, but I have off of other cars with general success. There are special tools, similiar to putty knives. It takes a lot of time and patience. I generally use (on a good car) a putty knife with the blade wrapped in black electrical tape to reduce scratching. The worst pieces to remove (glad our cars do not have these) are chrome from the drip rails - almost impossible without damaging!

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. My car does have the panel with fuel door. It is a pretty rough "grain" or texture. The side mouldings also have the same texture in the center.I will try to take that into consideration when choosing the material. Thanks again.

holy cow, $4.66? Those things used to be giveaways from the beer companies for punching steel-top cans! My dad always called them "church keys"... The one in my kitchen drawer is stamped with the Schlitz logo!

Look in the "buy it now" section of eBay Motors, search "granada". This trim is listed, it's from a '79 coupe. Several other parts from that car are in there. $20 buy it now, $15 shipping. It's Item number: 220121055603 on eBay. A pic: Does anyone know of a source for rear window chrome?
