James - if you can, either verify the trim code or the seats. It's a code I haven't seen before.

Jeff, I was back at the yard in Greenville. I bought the 8 inch rear end from the Blue 80 Monarch. It is a 2.79 open rear. As for the trim code....I did verify it as the one I first sent. In addition the Cream and the Blue 80 Monarchs both have a low back bench seat that is "split" on the seat backs like a bucket seat. The bottoms are a bench but has a "bucket seat" look with a large armrest in the middle. The split between the seat backs is as wide as the armrest. The armrest did not go to the top of the seat either. (Hope this helps) I am going back to get the one from the Blue Monarch. They want 30 bucks for it and I can get it recovered. I really like the way it looks VS the straight bench I have in my 77. Neither car had a Ghia emblem that I could find. I found another Granada yesterday traveling to my store in Batesville. It looks like a 78. It was a white 2 dr with the bumper protection group. I am going to try to get the Vin and Data plate info when I go back next week. It looked from "50 ft" to be in decent shape. Thanks again for this great site.

Borrowed this pic from James Kaster's Versailles site, from a '78 Monarch brochure. Is this the seat that you mention? It's in a Monarch Ghia here but this seat - they called it the Flight Bench - was available in base models too.

YEP! That is the seat. The 80 Monarch's is cloth with a non-solid pattern. The 78 Cream Monarch is vinyl I guess. It was ripped pretty good. I am going back next week to get the Blue one and hold onto it until I can get it recovered. That seat looks way more comfortable than the bench I have now. If you don't wear a seatbelt...I could be in the passenger side in a turn....HA HA! with the bench seat.
Is this the seat Jeff was talking about?

There should be 6 numbers following the L. 7 = 1977 model year E = Mahwah, New Jersey Assembly Plant 35 = Monarch 2dr L = 250-6 1V 6cyl The other six number is the production sequence. Mercury starts at 500,000 in that year.

I HAD TO REPLY AFTER LOOKING ATALL THESE VIN NUMBERS AND NONE LOOK LIKE MINE AT ALL. 1FABP28B7CA148804 IS SOMETHING OUT OF PLACE OR AM I JUST READING IT WRONG? Starting in 1981, all vehicles available for North America went to a 17-digit VIN number. You can see the different VINs and what each character means by going here: gmv-registry.com/92/index.html
