Well guys and gals- I'm now the owner of a '79 Versailles... note I did not say "proud" owner. This was an E-Bay purchase and I wish I'd looked up Jeff's registry before I bought it...it's in there from a previous E-Bay listing.... I've had good luck purchasing on E-Bay- found sellers to be accurate in description and generally /respectably honest. Car was listed as having 38,000 miles, very clearly evident on first "real life look at it", it has at least 138,000 miles. No one can claim ignorancre of that!!!! I had it shipped from Florida to the US/Canada border, but it needed drive train repairs before I could drive it the two and half hours from there to home. Listing claimed everything worked ~~ sow's chow~~!! It'll need a lot of work and without spending an absolute fortune, I can't make it a top notch piece; the best I can hope for is a very presentable daily driver. It has been repainted, probably a cheep Maaco or similar job... it 's not that bad, but not that good. The interior shows wear, but not extreme. Headliner replaced with cheap imitation and poor job, is missing driver's sun visor. Carpet /door panels are very decent though. While a disapointment , it certainly is not a basket case. It obviously has spent most ,if not all of its life down SOUTH no rust whatsoever on frame, suspension members, and floor & trunk pans. Every sheet metal panel on it is solid and relatively free from dents, and most surprisingly, the coach vinyl roof is in very good condition with lite wear only. Mechanically, engine runs good, and tranny shifts fine. Has new battery, 2 brand new Goodyear front tyres and 2 Cooper near new rear tyres. A/C works...so all in all it has good potential.. It has more jiggles and rattles than the average carnival ride... loose glove box, ash trays, windows, door latches, etc. --- I'll soon be looking for an assortment of parts, first and most imprtant right now a driver's door window channel run. If any one has, or knows where ,one that's available, pls let me know. James K, Don Eaton, Bill '79, looks like I'm now your poor cousin. Separately, I'll be providing Jeff with registry info. Cheers to one and all- Ralph

Congratulations, I think Window channel can be bought in bulk lengths - it's pretty close to original except will not have the riveted on window guide close to the A-pillar. I have some of this in my left door and fits and looks great. I actually used it in the complete window channel, not just where Ford stopped just inside the door. At this point I wish I had kept that '77 Versailles I had, it would have been great parts for all of you!

Jeff- Indeed that's the sucker's prize. But, I think once over my frustration with erroneous representation, I'll problaby enjoy ressurecting it!
Bill- Indeed, I'll call on your specialty, hopefully without being a nuisance.. Exterior - Upper - dark champagne ( originally whole car this colour I believe) lower tan was somebody's wish for a change. Interior-- is/was light champagne. Except for roof liner which is a recent pathetic job , the rest of the interior is not bad. Even carpet will clean up , I believe. My first order is to get a driver's door window channel and adjust the window glass to go up/down properly . Thanks to you both, Cheers , Ralph

O.K I get FIRST prize in the SUCKER dept then! All of my Versailles I have owned in the past and today, have required work of some kind weather fairly major or minor. But eventually You get to that point of saying Yes it was worth the aggravation etc My most recent Versailles the 78 I bought last month, has a VERY SOLID BODY, perfect vinyl Roof, Will require some minor paint work. Engine and Drive train seem fine. as well as the chassis, brakes etc. BAD NEWS ,dept it is so ORIGINAL that the VARIBLE VENTURI Carb ,is still on it. And it runs like JUNK. I am pretty sure it is running VERY RICH, A New Carb is in order ,and definitely NOT the Varible. other things are typical. The car has only 91,000 Km, but probably sat for a while, So it needs to be driven, need to attend to a bad power window motor, trim missing, lights not working, and the Fuel gage is not working. So Yes can I claim FIRST prize!!!!!!! Onto a more SERIOUS note, Ralph Your 79 ,is a FACTORY ORIGINAL 2 tone PAINT OPTION. The DARK CHAMPAGNE over the LIGHT CHAMPAGNE. As a matter of fact my "DAILY DRIVER" 79 VERSAILLES is All DARK CHAMPAGNE, though the paint is very rough ,and I need to do body work. My original intention ,was to restore it to a 2 TONE ,exactly like yours. That is when I win the 6/49 that is!!!! LOL ;D one day . I bet You Yours has a CHAMPAGNE interior either in Leather or Cloth? the Daily Driver originally had a LEATHER FLGHT BENCH interior, in Champagne. But back in 1998, I found a COMPLETE CLOTH INTERIOR ,from a 1980 Versailles, in Champagne, thats with the Luxury Cloth, and SIX WAY Twin comfort lounge seats. I INSTALLED it in this car for around $100.00, That was from a Do it Yourself yard. The results . Are excellent. You want to know INTERCANGEABILITY? All my 79s have CHAMPAGNE interiors, two with leather buckets ,and the 80 interior. Lots of fun and parts! As for the WINDOW RUN CHANNEL, the PART is INTERCHANGABLE with the same part from , any GRANADA/MONARCH 4 DOOR. So If there is any around Your area for Parts You should be able to locate that part easily. BILL79

Bill 79- Hey, thanks for sharing the "needs' of your Versailles. Makes me feel a bit better... and I'm too stubborn to quit, so this Versy will see some refurbishing, little by little. Already stuck a "Monarch" hood/header emblem, cause I had one. Don't look half bad, actually. You can bet I'll be in touch. Cheers, Ralph

HI,i JUST READ YOUR POSTS on the 79 Versaille, it looks ok in the pics,I think the most expensive things for me were the brakes(complete job). everything mechanical seems to be available. But the cranksensor & eec stuff. This can be done with a Duraspark 2 system& a mechanicle carb i used a Holley but there are others that will fit, this will defeat the need for the eec .Makes life a lot easier any help I can give I will Don. deaton@rogers.com,its easier to contact me on email as I chec it daily...Don...

Hey Don- Thanks for the kind words... I guess the worst on my Versailles is the extent of neglect it had had. Yeap, the body is solid and straight, mechanical runs decent. But lots of missing and non functioning parts.. I've cleaned the exterior, darker paint came up quite good, as did the vinyl roof, it was some cruddy. Lower lite colour not coming up as well but nonetheless presentable. The interior needs lots of work, cleaning& repairing, but I don't give up easily. One day, I may actually say, I'm glad I got this car... I'm getting to know it real well!!!! How are things with you , Don.. with the treatments and all.. hope it'll get you on the mend. Did you receive the park/turn light from Ensencorp... was it decent.,I've been happy with what I've gotten from them, it not NOS but real good used components. What about left rear tail light bezel? any luck? Keep in touch.. my personal e mail is- ralfann@rogers.com. Cheers, Ralph
